As we enter another year, it is a great time to evaluate our goals and
efforts as well as our attitudes and beliefs. In our industry, I believe
that there are great things happening and we are fortunate to be a part
of an exciting time in illustration and visual problem solving.
Too often over the last two years, we have heard many in our industry
talk about what's wrong with illustration, how things have really changed
for the worse and even some have been ready to herald the end of illustration
as a viable vocation. At Shannon Associates, we have instead chosen to
spend a lot of time and energy thinking about how to adapt and adjust
to the new illustration economy.
Adaptation to a shrinking industry is not our future; rather, our goal
is transformation. There has never been such great access to potential
art buyers. We have developed new ways of communicating our ideas and
visions, while continuing to perfect and honor the traditional ones. The
options for marketing have expanded and our choices are greater than ever
before. We have been moving strongly toward affecting positive change
industry wide in the arenas of contracts, rights, and usage. We have come
together and opened avenues of communication with our peers like never
before.
Our vision will become our reality. It is incumbent upon everyone working
in illustration, illustrators and reps alike, to project our vision
in a positive, healthy and vibrant way. It is a great time to be part
